Understanding Different Survey Question Types

Survey questions come in a variety of formats designed to capture different types of feedback. Understanding these question types helps you build surveys that collect meaningful and actionable insights.

Question Types in Teamgage Surveys

Short Answer
Use when you need a brief response (up to 180 characters)
Long Answer
Use when you need more detailed feedback (up to 1000 characters)
Single Select
A multiple-choice question where only one answer can be selected. This uses radio buttons (circle options)
Multi Select
A multiple-choice question where respondents can select more than one answer. This uses checkboxes (square options)
Scale*
A rating question using a numerical scale (e.g. 1–5 or 0–10). Responses move from low (negative) to high (positive)
Likert*
A group of related scale questions using statements where respondents indicate their level of agreement or disagreement
Alert
