Moving a Team in Your Organisational Hierarchy
As organisations evolve, teams may move between departments, divisions, business units or reporting lines. Teamgage allows Administrators to reposition teams within the organisational hierarchy while maintaining continuity of reporting and historical data.
Moving a team updates its location within your hierarchy without requiring you to recreate the team or lose its reporting history.
How to Move a Team
- Log into the Teamgage platform
- Go to Teams > Teams List from the left-hand side navigation
- Search for the team you want to move
- Click Edit Team
- Select Change next to the Parent Team
- Choose the new parent team
- Review the membership changes presented
- Click Save
Here's What It Looks Like
Processing Time
Depending on the size of your organisation and the number of teams involved, the move may take several minutes to complete. You do not need to remain on the page while the change is processed. Teamgage will complete the update in the background.
You can monitor progress via the Details tab, where a completion percentage will be displayed until the move is finished.
What Happens When a Team Is Moved?
When a team is moved within the hierarchy:
- The team retains its identity
- Historical submissions, comments and reporting data remain with the team
- Existing team memberships are maintained
- Managers continue to have access based on the team's updated position in the hierarchy
- Future results will be reported from the team's new location
This makes moving a team ideal for organisational restructures where the team itself remains the same, but its reporting line changes.
When Should I Create a New Team Instead?
If the team is fundamentally changing and you do not want to retain its historical submissions, comments or reporting data, consider creating a new team instead.
For example:
- A department is being replaced by an entirely new function
- A new leader wants to begin reporting from a clean starting point
- Historical results are no longer relevant to the new team's purpose
In these situations, create a new team and move employees into it rather than moving the existing team.
