Using Heatmaps – Node View

Using Heatmaps – Node View

The Heatmap Node View provides a visual, interactive way to explore organisational results. It brings your organisation’s structure to life using nodes and connections, making it easy for leaders to quickly understand what’s working, what needs attention and where to focus next.
This view is ideal for executive-level discussions, pattern recognition and strategic insight.

How To View The Heatmap Node View

  1. Log into Teamgage
  2. Navigate to Huddle > Results from the left-hand menu
  3. Click on the Entire Organisation or the highest team within your division (which have sub-teams under it)
  4. Click on the Heatmap tab found at the top of the Results Dashboard
  5. Switch to the Node View

Here's What It Looks Like

Understanding The Node View Layout

When you open the Node View, you’ll see a visual representation of your organisation, made up of nodes (dots) and connecting lines.
This view allows you to move from a 10,000-ft organisational overview down into individual teams, helping you quickly spot patterns, strengths and risks.

What the Nodes Represent

  1. Each node represents a team within your organisation
  2. Connections (lines) show how teams relate within the organisational structure
  3. Node size, colour and positioning reflect relative results and activity
  4. Nodes update in real time as results and activity change
This makes it easy to visually compare teams without scanning rows of data.
From your Organisation to individual Teams, you can:
  1. Start with a whole-of-organisation view
  2. Zoom or drill into specific departments or divisions
  3. Select individual teams to view their results in more detail
This supports both high-level scanning and focused exploration.

Identifying Patterns and Insights

The Node View is designed to help leaders quickly identify:
  1. Clusters of high or low performance
  2. Areas of consistent strength across departments
  3. Emerging risks that may not be obvious in table-based views
  4. Differences across divisions or demographic groups
It’s particularly effective for leadership conversations where speed, clarity, and shared understanding are critical.

Viewing Metrics In The Node View

On the left-hand side of the Node View, you can select which metric to display. Options include:
  1. Average score (across all metrics)
  2. Individual metrics tracked by your organisation
  3. Response rate
Notes
The Node View only displays one metric at a time in the visual nodes.

Node View Functionality

Hover over any team node to view additional context, including:
  1. All other metric scores for that team
  2. Total comments
  3. Comment themes
This allows you to quickly see detailed information for any team without leaving the Node View.

Heatmap Node View Features

Absolute vs Relative Results

Absolute Results
Absolute results show the actual scores and activity values based on submitted feedback and recorded actions.
Use absolute results when you want to:
  1. Review current performance
  2. Understand raw scores and engagement levels
Here's What It Looks Like

Relative Results (Compare To)
Relative results show how teams are performing in comparison to a benchmark, such as:
  1. A previous period (i.e. last submission cycle or last year)
  2. The entire organisation
Notes
Example: A score of -2 in Accountability means the team scored 2 points lower than the selected comparison.
Relative results are useful for spotting trends and under-or over-performance.

Filtering

The Heatmaps Node View allows you to Filter results using your organisations demographic tags (i.e. Gender & Tenure).
This helps narrow your analysis and compare results across specific groups.
